New Delhi: Did Donald Trump administration anti-immigration policies make many Indian students to consider studying in Indian B-schools over their United States counterpart? A recent LinkedIn post highlighted this shift saying "many US MBA aspirants are choosing to study in India due to immigration chaos." According to the post by Aviral Bhatnagar, Investing in startups at ajuniorvc.com, “Spoke to one of my IIM A professors who is also a chairperson. He was upbeat about students this year, saying that many US MBA aspirants are choosing to study in India due to immigration chaos. Fascinating that the on-ground impact is almost immediate, talent is staying back.”Saurabh S, a LinkedIn user posted- "According to GMAC's 2024 report, 17% of US B-schools reported a decline in international applications. Meanwhile, top Indian B-schools like IIMs saw a 15–20% jump in foreign interest, especially from South Asia and Africa." The LinkedIn post sparked widespread debate with many denied to belief the shifts towards Indian B-schools as claimed. Akash Khatwani, a LinkedIn user said, "I think it's a temporary phenomenon.. things will go back to their equilibrium as geo-political tensions ease.. the only way we can take advantage is if we can sustain this trend of students remaining in India and at the same time expanding capacities in IITs, IIMs, AIIMS etc. Otherwise, it will only add competition in our already intense competitive landscape." According to Akshay Chaturvedi, "Those who want to go to the US are delaying by a year, are ok to wait (different from Canada-bound, who changed destination to diff parts of Europe, where they could find similar price point and aligned ROI).” The top Indian B-schools as per QS MBA Rankings 2025 are- IIM Bangalore (rank 1 in India and 53rd globally), IIM Ahmedabad (rank 2 in India and 60th globally), IIM Calcutta (3rd in India and 65th globally), ISB Hyderabad (Rank 4, 86th globally), IIM Kozhikode (rank 5), IIM Indore (rank 6). Meanwhile, the management institutes in US are- Stanford Graduate School of Business (rank 1), The Wharton School (rank 2), Harvard Business School (rank 3), MIT Sloan School of Management (rank 4).
