New Delhi: The Department of Telecom (DoT) has proposed new mobile verification platform to curb rising frauds. The draft cyber security rules released on June 24 suggest to create a new platform for phone number validation that includes those entities that use phone numbers to identify customers like banks using phone numbers for UPI transactions, as reported by news agency PTI. The new rule recommends a price of Rs 1.5 per request for status validation of a mobile number in the database of telecom operated by an entity while any other entity will need to pay Rs 3 per request for mobile number validation. The new rules once in place will provide law enforcement agencies to collect details of transactions carried out by a person from non-telecom entities as well. Interested parties who wish to provide comments on the draft can do so within 30 days from the date of publication. FM Nirmala Sitharaman on cyber frauds Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked fintech startups to come out with solutions to deal with the rising incidence of digital arrests, cheating by fly-by-night operators, and other kinds of cyber frauds.Speaking at the Digital Payments Awards 2025 ceremony, the minister credited fintechs with helping speed up financial inclusion and taking the payment system to even the far-flung areas of the country, news agency PTI reported. "Today, we should take care in addressing them so we need a set of fintech companies which are constantly working to give solutions for the newer challenges which are arising," she said.
